Reddish Light Arches

The fall guy is dead
They didn’t say how
I make him face down
On a draylon settee
A half bottle of blended scotch
On its back on the rug
A buckled beer can
Crawling with stubbed cigarettes
A thin shimmer curtain of heat
Over a two bar fire
A neighbour’s eyes in the letterbox
The telly still on
But there’s been a mistake
Any moment now he’ll jolt awake
Jab a tuning fork into the national grid
Slip a furious wasp under his tongue
And cough up a new song
