The audio-visual book by One Little Goat Theatre Company is a new film of James Joyce’s divine and delirious comedy.
This marks the first of 17 chapters in “Finnegans Wake” (1939), as brought to life by the virtuosic performances of Irish-Canadian actor Richard Harte. The film also includes Irish-Canadian singer Kevin Kennedy’s superb rendition of the “Finnegan’s Wake” folk song that inspired Joyce’s title. Directed by Adam Seelig and filmed before a live audience, this multi-year project marks the first ‘audio-video book’ of “Finnegans Wake” and is a valuable resource for both new and seasoned readers of Joyce’s extraordinary final work.
“Actor Richard Harte has found a way to crack the private code and maintain the original voltage… of one of the most funny and challenging novels of the 20th century, Joyce’s Finnegans Wake.” —Cahir O’Doherty, The Irish Voice
“Joyce is good. He is a good writer. People like him because he is incomprehensible and anybody can understand him.” —Gertrude Stein
